WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TAKE? (theme capitalized above a direct quote)
HOW DO WE HAVE DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS AND MOVE BEYOND "US AND THEM"?

HOW DO WE IMPROVE COMMUNICATION AT ALL LEVELS OF THE SYSTEM?
How do I go about affectively communicating to others?

How can we engage the disengaged student?
WHAT DOES A SYSTEM LOOK LLIKE THAT MEETS THE NEEDS OF ALL KIDS?
How does one affect real systemic change at the provincial level in terms of creating a comprehensive system of care for children?

How to provide the "right" support to bring continued alignment and growth?
HOW DO WE MENAINGFULLY ENGAGE OUR STAKEHOLDERS, COMMUNITIES AND FAMILIES?

WHAT ARE THE IMPORTANT CONVERSATIONS WE NEED TO HAVE THAT ARE ECLIPSED BY FEAR / URGENCY? (WORLD CAFE)
The participant conversations surfaced key themes that we could impact and/or influence:
Meeting Student Need
Are we really meeting the needs of all our students? ( socially, academically, emotionally)
Use of technology
Students over outcomes
Are classes engaged?
How do we meet the needs of all students, including special needs?
What do we do with the younger students with major issues without supports until they get in upper levels?
Achievement gap, racial, fear of seeming racist in these conversations
Need for uncomfortable conversations
ie: race realtions, staff performance, inclusivity
More conversation and work on ensuring cultural diversity is celebrated and respected
Staff Wellness & Support
Supporting teachers (relationships)
Honestly supporting staff wellness (people are overloaded fear of addressing or urgency)
What is the achievement gap compared to other boards / schools / Provinces
Outcome Based System
Stress to meet various outcomes
Both teachers and students fear that an outcomes based driven system devalues individuality, reactivity and recognition
Is it time for systemic change
How are we dealing with declining enrolment in NS?
What is the optiminium school / size re: elementary, junior and senior high
How do we create a more flexible system?
How do we meet the requirements of the system ( top down) and in the schools
Confines of the system, operating inside a stainless steel box, no flexibility
Digging deep, understanding and maintaining "ego"?
Data telling us what's wrong, not always directing the needed change
Responding to data effectively
Innovation & Trail Blazing
Time and latitude to innovate
Conversations of Trailblazing
Having difficult conversations, Race, conflict
Are there repercussions when voicing concerns?
Fear to look into the " Why"
Hard to have the tough conversations
Fear of having difficult conversations limits our growth capacity in all regards
Resources, $ , staff
How do we reallocate $'s to areas of need? (proper allocation for our students)
Fear of losing staff or staff satisfaction, may drive teacher assignments. ( Most skilled teachers need to be with most vulnerable students
Allocating resources based on needs, not #'s
Inequality in allocation of resources
What are the solutions?
Achievement gap, SEC, Fiscal, accountability, etc..
Time 4 all effectively, cooperatively
How do we recreate the system we want?
How do we meet the needs of all our students?

CHAORDIC STEPPING STONES
WHAT DO YOU CARE ABOUT ENOUGH TO TAKE ACTION ON? (DESIGN LAB)
We closed the session with a quaker circle where anyone who was moved to was invited to speak. Tim summarized the comments people made into a spontaneously written slam poem which is in the video on the right
